Kingsacre Resident and WWII Veteran Honoured on VE Day

This May, residents and staff at Kingsacre Care Home marked VE Day with a special moment of reflection and pride, as one of our very own residents, David, was featured in the Clydebank Post. At 105 years old, David is not only one of our eldest residents but also a World War II veteran with an incredible story to tell - one that now lives on in the pages of the local paper.
David served during the Second World War by driving military lorries and helping to rebuild areas of Italy following the conflict. His contribution was a vital part of the efforts to restore communities and infrastructure devastated by war. On VE Day, his memories were shared far and wide as he spoke with reporters and even suited up in one of his military uniforms - a proud moment for him, and a touching sight for everyone at Kingsacre.
It was an emotional and powerful way to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. While many across the UK reflected on the sacrifices made during WWII, we had the unique privilege of hearing those memories first-hand from someone who lived through it. For our residents and team, David’s story added an extra layer of meaning to the day, turning a national moment of remembrance into a personal and heartfelt celebration.

The interview not only allowed David to revisit his experiences with dignity and pride but also served as a living history lesson for our care home and the wider community. His feature in the Clydebank Post gave readers across the region the chance to connect with a real-life veteran and appreciate the people behind the history books.
Celebrating our residents and sharing their stories is something we cherish at Kingsacre. It brings generations together, fosters understanding, and helps honour the remarkable lives of those in our care.
