Nutrition and Hydration week takes place every June with a purpose to bring people together to create energy, focus and fun, in order to highlight and educate people on the value of food and drink in maintaining health and wellbeing in health and social care. With organisations from around the world joining in with the initiative it was great for our care home in Duntocher to be a part of it.
The highlight of the week was the afternoon tea on Wednesday 16th June, with the show stopper of the party being the layered chocolate cake which was made by Mark Burrows, our chef. A great afternoon was had by all as we enjoyed tea and cake in the beautiful sunshine in our private garden.
Karlynn Wheelan, Home Manager said: “Nutrition and hydration is so vitally important for the overall health and quality of life of all our residents. Not only does it encompass the intake of food and fluid to meet a person’s dietary and biological needs it is also fundamental to physical and mental wellbeing. With our dedicated team of Chefs at the home we pride ourselves on the nutritious home-crafted meals and snacks we provide to our residents, and we ensure that mealtimes offer a great time for social interaction.
“We always ensure that we host a wide range of activities and events at the home, including arts and crafts, entertainers, exercise, quizzes and gardening to name a few but the Afternoon Tea Party was a huge hit with everyone. Let’s face it who doesn’t enjoy a party especially when you can enjoy a slice of cake and a cup of tea with your friends!”
