Gentleman Residents Enjoying Hot Drink in The Garden

Embracing the Season’s Delightful Weather

At Kingsacre Care Home we have been blessed with some lovely weather, which called for some activities in the garden and for residents to feel the warmth on their skin. Games included ping pong and a quiz. We are very lucky to have such a large outdoor space that residents can utilise and enjoy, whether it's playing a game with a resident or staff member or simply enjoying the sunshine with a cup of tea.

Now the weather is getting better, it is the perfect time for residents to take part in more physical activity. Exercising our body and mind helps to keep residents active in all aspects of their lives.

On this sunny day, residents took a stroll down the hill to see the lovely shetland ponies in a field nearby and gave them lots of attention.

During one of our regular music therapy sessions, residents took part in some wonderful dancing and singing. It is always a lovely sight to see residents joyful whilst they sing, dance or simply tap their feet to the music. Music can have a powerful effect on our emotions. Music therapy can help residents to feel more positive and improve their overall mood. It can also enable them to express their emotions in a safe and supportive environment.

Physical exercise is important for maintaining physical and mental health, especially in older adults. Outdoor physical exercise can provide even more benefits, so we try to encourage this as much as possible as we see first-hand the difference it can make.

Outdoor exercise can help to improve residents' cardiovascular health, strengthen their muscles and bones, and increase their flexibility and mobility. This can also help them maintain their independence and reduce the risk of falls and other injuries.

Being outdoors in nature can have a positive effect on our mood and emotional well-being. Outdoor exercise and activities can help residents feel more relaxed and refreshed and reduce stress and anxiety.

Sunlight is an important source of vitamin D, which is essential for bone health and other bodily functions, so incorporating outdoor exercise often helps residents increase their exposure to sunlight and vitamin D.

Outdoor exercise also provides a change of scenery and a new environment for residents to explore. This can help keep them engaged and stimulated, which can improve their cognitive functioning and overall well-being.

We look forward to enjoying the warmer weather in the upcoming months where more outdoor activities and events will be on the agenda for our residents at our care home near Glasgow.
