We are pleased to announce that a group of our residents at Kingsacre completed 12 weeks of French Lessons with Carolyn from Lingo Flamingo.
The activity took place each week in the care home for a total of 12 weeks. Residents were able to learn the basics of a new language which residents felt truly accomplished.
We felt it was important for our residents to learn a new skill and they were just as keen as we were to learn as much of the French language during the 12-week period. After the 12 weeks was completed, we hosting our own graduation day for residents where they were given a sash, mortarboard and certificate which residents were over the moon with.
There are so many benefits to learning a new language. Learning a new language challenges the brain and promotes mental agility. For older adults, this can help maintain cognitive function, delay the onset of conditions like dementia, and enhance memory and problem-solving skills.
Language learning also encourages social engagement. Residents can connect with each other and with staff through conversations, group activities, and language classes, fostering a sense of community and reducing feelings of loneliness or isolation.
Successfully learning a new language can boost self-esteem and confidence among residents. Residents may feel a sense of accomplishment and pride, which positively impacts their overall well-being.
We wanted language learning to be enjoyable and engaging for residents at Kingsacre which was possible with the help of Carolyn from Lingo Flamingo, so a big thank you to Carolyn for being a fantastic tutor.
